Getting to Praia da Luz

From Faro Airport (FAO) — about 1 hour

Faro is the Algarve's international airport and the nearest to Luz, with year-round flights from across the UK and Europe. The drive is roughly 92 km, almost all of it on the A22 motorway heading west towards Lagos, then a short final stretch through Luz to the St James resort. Allow about an hour in normal traffic.

A22 tolls: the A22 is an electronic-toll motorway with no booths. Hire cars are usually fitted with a toll transponder — ask your rental company when you collect the car.

From Lisbon Airport (LIS) — about 2¾ hours

Flying into Lisbon can open up more routes and fares. The drive south is about 300 km, on the A2 then the A22, and takes around two and three-quarter hours without stops.

By train to Lagos

Regional trains run along the Algarve line to Lagos, the end of the line. Lagos station is about 9 km from the apartment — roughly 15 minutes by taxi.

Taxis

Local taxis serve Luz and Lagos; we share numbers with confirmed guests in the apartment handbook. Airport transfers from Faro can be booked in advance — ask us and we'll point you in the right direction.

Parking and arrival

There is free parking on site at the St James resort, and a lift to the top floor. Check-in is from 4pm. Keys are collected from a secure key safe, so a late flight is no problem — just tell us roughly when you expect to arrive.

Do you need a car?

Not for Luz itself: the beach, supermarkets, cafés and restaurants are all within walking distance. A car is useful for exploring — Lagos is about 15 minutes away and Sagres, at the south-western tip of Portugal, about 30 minutes.
